Women’s demand for 33 per cent reservation voiced again
BANGALORE, DHNS:
Women’s rights activists under the banner of WomenPower Connect on Saturday said
the country would progress when there is 33 per cent reservation for women in
Parliament.
Addressing a press conference at the end of the two-day workshop titled ‘Women
and Legislative Coordination’ organised by WomenPowerConnect (an agglomeration
of Non-Government Organisations), Dr Ranjana Kumari of the New Delhi-based
Centre for Social Research said the face of the nation will change on the day
when a total of 182 women (33 per cent) enter the Parliament.
Pass bill
Apart from giving 33 per cent reservation to women, the Centre should also take
steps to pass the Domestic Violence Prevention Bill, she said.
WomenPowerConnect will strive to increase awareness about women-related issues
and influence policy makers to come out with legislations that will improve the
status of women in society, she added. [Deccan Herald: Sunday, November 28, 2004
