Godman accused of sex racket remanded to judicial custody
March 15, 2010, New Delhi
A Delhi court on Monday remanded self-styled Godman Shiv Murat Dwivedi,
accused of running a flesh trade racket, to one day judicial custody as
investigators failed to produce the case diary to extend his police remand under
stringent anti-organized crime law MCOCA.
Special Judge S K Sarwaria sent Dwivedi alias Ichchadhari Sant Swami Bhimanand
Ji Maharaj Chitrakootwale (39) to judicial custody till Tuesday, refusing to
allow the police to further interrogate the accused in their custody.
Delhi police had sought five days' more in their custody of the accused who was
produced before the court at the end of six days in police custody.
The investigators claimed they had located the accused's properties worth Rs one
crore at various places. He is alleged to be running a website for flesh trade.
They had sought his custodial interrogation claiming they had to verify entries
made in the diaries of the accused mentioning the transactions carried out by
him.
"The Investigating Officer (IO) is directed to present the diary in person and
then only we may consider the Delhi police plea. You should first produce the
case diary," the court said, sending the accused to judicial custody.
Dwivedi, who was alleged to be involved in four cases under the Immoral Traffic
(Prevention) Act and one case of robbery, was arrested on March nine under the
provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
The Godman was alleged to have earned crores of rupees through the sex racket.
