A rape accused married the victim following the direction of a village panchayat in Ghaziabad after which police have closed the case against him.

The mother of the victim lodged an FIR against Manoj, alleging that he had raped her 18-year-old daughter on May 16, Superintendent of Police M M Beg said.

She alleged that the man, who was the younger brother of her son-in-law, had come to her residence at Garhmukteshwar and raped her daughter who was alone at that time, he said.
      
A medical examination confirmed rape and police were trying to nab Manoj, who was absconding after the incident, the SP said.

The matter was brought before a village panchayat which directed that Manoj should marry the victim. After both the families agreed, the marriage was solemnized in the presence of panchayat members and others, Beg said,
     
"There is no need to prosecute the boy. So a final report has been filed," the SP said, adding the case has been closed.
