A 30-year-old girl from the suburb of Mulund was slated to marry
Akhilesh Pathak, a call centre employee next month.
But the dowry demands kept going up, and so the bride-to-be,
organised a sting operation herself.
"My father gave whatever they had asked for. Then they increased
their demand saying they wanted a car too," said the bride-to-be.
The girl's family had already paid Rs three lakh, but the groom
wanted an additional two lakh, and a car.
By then, she decided to take them on. She called off the wedding,
but not before ensuring the groom and his parents pay for their
demands.
"She told me to call off the wedding, but she wanted to expose
their misdeeds and carried out the sting," said her father.
The sting made the job easier for the police. The groom and his
father are now in their custody.
