Woman burnt to death for not seeking loan

Mysore. Sept 28:

A house-wife,Savitha (19), was burnt to death on Saturday for refusing to seek a loan against a fixed deposit.

Four persons, includinig her in law and husband, have been arrested, by Bannur police in this connection.

According to the police, Savitha was married to Venkatesh,a petty shop owner of Punyadahundi in chamnrajnagar taluk two years ago.

Savitha's parents had deposited 5.000 in their daughter's account and Venkatesh's sister had been pestering him to seek a loan over the deposit.

Venkatesh had asked his sister to approach Savitha with the request. However, when Savitha refused to comply, the enraged in-laws are said to have doused her with kerosene before setting her on fire.

They later locked the house and came to the street claiming that Savitha had attempted suicide. Savitha was admitted to bannur hospital and later shifted to K R Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Bannur police have arrested Savitha's mother-in law Venkatamma, sister-In-law Jayaakshmi, father in law Kenchegowda and Venkatesh. .ENS
